Sustainability
bloc are committed to the concept of sustainability. One of the most frequently quoted definitions of sustainability is that put forward in 1987 by the Brundtland Commission, which describes sustainable development as “meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”.
A widely held consensus is that for projects to be sustainable, three concepts need to be taken into account simultaneously:-
- Environmental sustainability;
- Economic sustainability; and
- Social sustainability.
All are widely described as the triple bottom line of “people, planet and profit”.
Sustainable communities are a key focus of our projects moving forward with the output of reducing the need for private car use by providing better infrastructure and maintaining local economic growth and jobs.
