CEO bloc and Founder

Richard is a Chartered Surveyor with a Masters in Business Administration and an Architectural Technology Degree. He has 27 years of experience in client side property development and has undertaken mixed use and single sector projects covering industrial, office, residential, retail, leisure and period properties UK wide. His development track record exceeds £1 billion in value.

Prior to bloc Richard worked for the Valuation Office and development companies including Capital and Counties plc, Miller Developments and Lynton plc (BAA plc). Richard has also set up tax efficient SPVs (single purpose vehicles) and has been a director of both pub and restaurant businesses. Having set up bloc in 1997 with Nicola Tindale, Richard has concentrated on formalising relationships with key partners to take forward the bloc development partnership niche.

Following on from the successful multi-award winning Edinburgh Quay project, ongoing joint ventures have been set up with the Canal and River Trust (British Waterways), Scottish Enterprise, Hanover Housing and Network Rail.

Nicola is a Chartered Surveyor and previous roles/employers include development agency, Greycoat plc and Lynton plc. She is a specialist in multi-sector development with an office and residential bias and has 27 years of property experience.

Nicola was co- founder of bloc in 1997 with the aim of specialising in partnership development. Her primary role is CEO of H2O Urban.

Nicola has been responsible for a number of successful bloc projects, including: an industrial and distribution scheme for Ford, a residential scheme with BT, an office pre-let and pre-sale to Scudder Threadneedle and development consultancy for Wheel Group and ClaraNet

Development Director

Richard joined bloc in February 2008 from mixed use development company Dandara. His previous roles covered Special Projects at Westbury Homes and Planning and Transportation at Babtie

Richard has over 15 years of experience working in the private sector development industry and with public sector partners. Richard works in all market sectors with particular expertise in residential and food retail.

Richard has a degree in Civil Engineering and has also completed an MBA via the College of Estate Management.

Philip has built up a successful track record of general business management, deal making and business turnarounds across a number of sectors. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst and Young.

Philip acts as Non-Executive Chairman/Director of a number of companies, including Foviance, ROEYE, and Preloaded, and works as a consultant on behalf of a number of other businesses.

He also has a portfolio of business angel investments.

He has a degree in Politics, Philosophy & Economics from Christ Church, Oxford.

Vicky qualified as a Chartered Accountant with PriceWaterhouseCoopers and has through the course of her career increasingly focussed on property matters with a particular specialism in property joint ventures. Previously Vicky was Financial Controller for British Waterways (latterly Canal and River Trust) joint venture businesses and also worked for Intu Properties.



Project Manager and Employer’s Agent

Since completing a degree in Construction Management, Jago Brown has worked in the construction and property sectors for 20 years. He initially gained a strong background in the design and construction disciplines whilst working for a major European Building Contractor.

Jago took has worked for Building Contractors and Developers specialising in Project Management throughout all stages of the development process, including an active involvement in acquisition strategy and pre-purchase due diligence. Over the last 12 years he has managed schemes across all sectors with a value in excess of £220 million, along with supplemental asset management schemes for third party clients.

Jago has worked with the bloc team for 7 years and since the end of 2009, Jago has been involved with the H2O Joint venture, as Project Manager and Employer’s Agent on a number of projects throughout England. These are primarily canal side residential schemes but also include a hotel and supermarket. He is also actively involved in a number of industrial warehouse developments.

Edwina started working in the property sector as a secretary at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, in both the Communications and then the Quantity Surveying departments. She then worked for DTZ in both their London and Manchester offices, as a PA to Directors for the Investment and Professional departments.

Edwina works flexibly both from home and in the bloc office in Mayfair. With the different joint venture partnerships at bloc she enjoys the diversity of challenges, roles and people that each of these JVs bring. She has worked for bloc for 13 years.

Development Consultant

After 10 years in the family farming and property business in South West Scotland, Neil retrained in 1995 and joined Drivers Jonas’ Glasgow office in 1997. Between 2002 and 2006, he worked with DM Hall in their Dumfries office, principally involved in professional work carrying out valuations on a wide range of commercial and residential property in the Dumfries & Galloway and Lanarkshire areas. This work included the industrial, retail, office, leisure and agricultural sectors and included both existing properties and development sites.

Neil joined bloc to run the Katalyst Joint Venture with Scottish Enterprise in Dumfries and Galloway and following the wind up of the business after 7 years of trading Neil now provides consultancy advice to bloc in Scotland and the North of England.
